The exact android version depends on the device. Android ereaders are kinda a niche power user product.

Anything with low contrast or animations will suck, and even text based stuff like news apps and browsers might need tinkering with optimisation settings to work well. Android ereaders are more open on that you can download any app, but most apps don't work great because they're not optimised for eink (black and white, slow refresh rate). They're optimised for reading, it's very convenient to buy/borrow books and read but that's all you can do. Kindle and Kobo (and other brands like Pocketbook) run their own versions of Linux. I read about an hour a day so it's 2 weeks between charges. I have a Likebook Muses, with wifi and bluetooth on it drains completely in like 7 hours but with wifi off it can last twice that. With Android devices you can download Google Drive etc, Kobo has Dropbox integration, USB cable transfer also works.īattery life depends heavily on how you use it.

Pretty much all devices support pdf and epub (Amazon Kindle devices don't support but converting to the supported mobi format is super simple). If you just read your own files, it doesn't matter what ecosystem the device has. If the device is marketed as an ereader you can assume it's eink. Thank you guys so much for your effort and advice! I'm going to first try my friends reader, and maybe see if I know another person or two who have different products. I've been reading about everything you guys wrote for hours now, so many cool options! (Though this seems to have become more expensive than I first realized) Sorry if this is too many questions, this is all just very new to me XD When it is said that something runs on old android, how old? Isn't it upgradeable? When the battery life is in the cons, how bad is it?ĭo the kindle\kobo not run on android? On what do they run? When talking about the book ecosystem - If I intend to use it mostly for reading PDF's / EPUB's that I get online, does it matter? When its not written that an e-book uses e-ink what does it use? other types of e-paper or something else? How important are those differences? So, what would you suggest? And why? Don't be afraid to get technical )ĮDIT: I've read the wiki and did a bit more research. I intend to use it for casual reading before bed & for reading mathematics papers (and writing notes).I prefer android over IOS, but beyond that I don't think I know enough to have preferences XD Hi everyone, a friend of mine recommended buying a BOOX nova, but I would love to have second opinions and suggestions.
